If you are planning on carrying out FCA regulated activities, you will need to be authorised by the FCA before you can carry out these activities. You will also need to show to the FCA that you are “ready, willing and organised” to become FCA authorised.
Becoming authorised by the FCA can be complex and difficult especially if you are not used to the FCA’s technical terms and do not have the compliance processes to support your business.
Depending on the activities that you wish to carry out, you will need to complete a number of forms which includes seeking additional approval for the owners of the business (known as Approved Persons).
Once you have submitted your application, it will be reviewed by a case officer who will then typically ask you a number of specific questions which you will need to respond to in a short time frame (normally 5 - 10 days). The FCA will take up to 6 months to reach a decision whether or not to approve you after you have addressed all the FCA’s queries.
